About Us

MISSION: the Historic District Commission (HDC) is chartered with safeguarding the heritage of Northville Township. The Historic District Commission is responsible for reviewing, advising and recommending properties and resources of, and their relationship to, the historical value of the surrounding area to the Township Board. The northville township Historic fund is the fundraising arm of the Historic district commission, currently raising funds to restore the 1877 thayer schoolhouse.

HISTORIC fUND mEMBERS:

tHE (WORKING) HISTORIC FUND MEMBERS INCLUDE: MARJORIE bANNER, PRESIDENT, BILL SIVY, VICE PRESIDENT, JOE OLDENBURG, SECRETARY, FRED SHADKO, TREASURER, AND DIRECTORS DIANE ROSONE, SHANA MAITLAND, SUZETTE HEATHCOTE, ROBIN SCHLEH, Dick Allen, Patricia Allen, AND JOHN PALMER.

PRESENTATIONS:

Members of the HDC and its Historic fund members are charged with providing Township history opportunities to its residents. Joe Oldenburg serves as our resident historian and archivist and frequently makes presentations, including information about the Salem Train wreck (see picture at right). For upcoming presentations check our calendar page. 

UPCOMING PRESENTATION:

Northville Township's HDC in conjunction with the Northville District Library will host a presentation about Northville's Fish hatchery. (see picture at left).  It will be held twice in early 2023, both at the Northville Township Hall and at the Northville District Library in the City of Northville). Date to be determined.
